Only One Class Left

I offered three beginning mosaic classes. The first two sold out and were so much fun! If you are interested in signing up for the last class, please click HERE.

Here are the details:

Beginners Stained Glass Mosaic Class

In this fun beginner class, you will create your own stained glass mosaic! First you will learn a little about the history of mosaics, then we will move on to learning to cut and work with stained glass. You’ll learn about mosaic techniques and begin our individual pieces, which will be 8” x 8” and framed.

The first day is for working on the mosaic and hopefully finishing the gluing, while the second day will be for grouting. If you don’t finish on the first day, you can use the second day as a work day to finish your piece and watch the grouting demonstration, then you can grout at home.

Please bring design ideas (I will have some templates if you wish), wear old clothes, and bring a lunch.

Saturday, July 13, 9:00-4:00
Sunday, July 14, 10:00-12:00

To register, click HERE.
Cost $125 (includes supplies and use of my tools, frame included as well)
Class size limited 6 paying students.

We’ll be meeting at my house, which is 37574 Dew Drop Road. From Lanesboro, take Hwy 16 heading east. Pass Whalan, then look for County Road 23 south. From 16, take a right on 23 and go for one mile. Take a left on Dew Drop Road and go one mile. My driveway is on the right. It’s very steep.

If you are coming from out of town, please visit the Lanesboro website http://www.lanesboro.com/ for other events, restaurants, and lodging. Lanesboro is the “Bed and Breakfast Capital of Minnesota”!

Note to people with allergies – I do have pets in the house.

If something comes up and you are unable to take the class, I will refund the full price ($125) up to two weeks ahead of time. After that point, I can refund only half of the price ($65). Thank you!

Mayo Austin

Today I dropped by the newly remodeled Mayo Clinic in Austin to see my "Austin Nature Series" - five panels of stained glass mosaics. It's right in the main lobby near the front door, and it sparkles being located across from a wall of windows.

A Reaction to the Mosaics at Mayo Austin

This made my day, and actually brought a tear to my eye... It is someone's reaction to my artwork at the Mayo Austin center (the fox, otter, landscape, nest, and birds):

"Next to the coffee bar, against the wall opposite the windows, I saw an amazing sight: five large glittering, shining, glowing pictures of nature scenes, made of colored glass shards. I could hardly believe my eyes, so fascinated was I by the effect of small pieces of glass in a wide range of colors arranged in transformed yet recognizable shapes. I read the information next to them: stained glass artist Barbara Keith lives in Lanesboro; the scenes depict actual observations made by Larry Dolphin, naturalist at our J.C.Hormel Nature Center. For example, a small red fox on his hind legs, swatting at a butterfly; an otter on his back in a stream, playing with a fish on his tummy; the brook with sunlight shattering on its ribbed surface. I don't recall the other scenes, but that's okay: I am going back. And not because I am sick. Au contraire! My reaction to these pictures: I stood there in awe and then realized that tears were running down my face. As if the artist had captured holiness and rendered it accessible to us for free."
