It's finally time to begin working on the terrazzo floor at the event center in Bemidji. It was exciting to be on the site. It's very quiet and organized. We began by drawing the design in marker on the floor starting from one end. We made some progress, and the guys followed up with aluminum strips, like these pictured below. This will divide the different colored epoxy in the design. Above, I'm holding up one of the brass inserts that will be placed on the floor and filled with different colors. One of the final steps is polishing the floor which will make the brass shine. In the very bottom picture, you can see part of the floor with some marker lines and some strips going in.

I'm in awe of the whole process. It seems like an incredibly large task to bring your ideas to fruition in a space that vast!
I know! I'm so glad these guys are on the project. They know what they are doing and it'll be beautiful thanks to all their hard work. I worked 3 hours one day, then about 8 hours the next day, and I could barely stand up after that - my legs and knees were so sore!
What an awesome project to be involved in. I can't wait to see the finished project.
Be well.
Oh, I thought it was outside! Is this the whole of it or is there more? Did they blow up your designs and trace them? I'd love to see it all in action! Congrats again!
Thanks, Sue and Christine. It's inside. It's going to be the whole concourse going all the way around the hockey arena, then also down another hall to another entrance by the ballrooms/conference center part of the building.
We measured the design (1/8" = 1 foot) and drew it out based on distances from the wall and the divisions in the floor.
Congrats. Very exciting. You look adorable in your hard hat. Keep up the good work!
Maybe I'll start a fashion trend? ;)
I still can't get my head around the process. This project is sure to bring you additional commissions. It is an amazing and complex installation. Your art will be a wonderful addition to the building!
